Pumpkin – A Spirited Harvest Fruit of Prosperity

Pumpkin – A Spirited Harvest Fruit of Prosperity

A fruit of the harvest and a symbol of prosperity

Pumpkins are fruits of the harvest season, and as such they are symbols not only the abundance of the harvest, but of gratitude and generosity. They are potent tools for spells, as they can be carved, cooked or buried. They attract creativity and inspiration, as well as prosperity and protection.

Wiccan Ritual Use of Pumpkin

Long held as the best way to ward off evil spirits on Samhain, pumpkins are a common sight as Autumn draws to an end each year. At Samhain, the veil between the worlds of living and dead is thin, and so we honor our ancestors but must also defend from evil. Pumpkins are known to offer a way to do both.

The fruit is useful in spells of protection, banishing, divination and contacting the spirit world. The seeds are appropriate in spells of fertility, abundance, wealth and prosperity. Both the fruit and the seeds work well in spells relating to love and luck.

The word pumpkin is most commonly used to identify round, orange-colored squash, though it does not possess a scientific definition. It is one of the oldest known domesticated plants, with a thick shell contains edible seeds and pulp.
