The Uncoiled Thing

For the thing you’ve been circling. Time to begin.

Write it down. One sentence — what you’re actually starting, not what you’re hoping for eventually. Fold the paper. Hold it in both hands, closed.

Notice the weight of it. Notice what it costs to keep holding it closed.

Then open your hands.

Say it out loud: “I’m beginning this.”

Plant the paper if you can — tear it small, bury it somewhere living. Or burn it. Either way, it’s out of your hands now.
