White

White has always reminded me of the fresh snow that blankets the yard before the kids tramp through it, a clean quiet before the world stirs. It is the blank page where intention has not yet taken shape. White is the color of purity, sacred beginnings, and spiritual clarity, holding the stillness of untouched snow and the light of divine presence. It carries the essence of protection, truth, and the cleansing power of renewal.

In traditional Wiccan and folk magical systems, white represents purity, truth, and spiritual light. It is widely regarded as a universal or substitute color, capable of standing in for any other color in candle magic when a specific shade is unavailable. White is most strongly aligned with the Moon, reflecting intuition, emotional balance, and the cleansing power of lunar energy. It is frequently used in spells and rituals for protection, peace, spiritual cleansing, and blessing.

White candles are a staple of ritual practice, often used in dedications, consecrations, healing work, and prayer-like intentions. In seasonal magic, white is closely tied to Yule, symbolizing snow, stillness, and the rebirth of the Sun, and Imbolc, representing purification and new beginnings. It is also central to Full Moon esbats, where its reflective quality supports divination, dream work, and spiritual insight.

White embodies sacred space, honesty of intent, and spiritual safety. Its energy is gentle but powerful, creating a foundation of clarity and protection in both traditional and modern witchcraft practice.
